“Venezuela’s Acting President Defends Country’s Territory and Rejects Trump’s 51 st  State Remarks,” Associated Press, May 11, 2026 Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez told the press May 11 her country doesn’t plan to become the 51 st  U.S. state. Earlier May 11, Fox News co-anchor John Roberts posted on X that President Trump had just told him that he was seriously considering making the South American country a part of the United States as the 51 st  state. “We will continue to defend our integrity, our sovereignty, our independence, our history,” Rodriguez said. Venezuela is “not a colony, but a free country,” she said, according to AP reporters Molly Quell and Regina Garcia Cano.
