“What is the Next Chapter for Birthright Citizenship After the Court’s Ruling?”, New York Times, June 30, 2025 Now that the Supreme Court has rejected nationwide injunctions ordered by judges at the federal district court level, what is the future of birthright citizenship? The injunctions were handed down to block an executive order issued by President Trump on his first day in office restricting the right enshrined in the Constitution for more than 160 years granting U.S. citizenship to all children born on U.S. soil. The U.S. Supreme Court did not rule on the constitutionality of the executive order in its ruling handed down June 27 dealing with district court-level injunctions. But by blocking such injunctions, it did clear the way at least temporarily for the executive order to be applied in a majority of states, said Times reporter Miriam Jordan.
